Subject: Brown Bridge Dam Removal Update
Friday (9-21-12) What a difference a week makes. Having been gone a week on
vacation I was finally able to get back out to Brown Bridge today. When I arrived around 7:30 this morning Brett Fessell, Biologist with the GT Band was already on-site checking the location of four large-mouth bass that he radio tagged last week. Our intent is to track the journey of
these bass (as long as the transmitter batteries last) as they make
their way downstream once the dam is breached. Brett also reported
seeing the trumpeter swans fly overhead when he arrived.
Work is continuing on temporary dewatering structure. AMEC and Molon hope
to have it done in the next week or two so they can begin the final
drawdown of the remaining pond.
Molon opened the new channel in the delta area to flow on September 11th. Since then the river has moved a tremendous amount of sediment that’s
being captured in a series of sand traps. These trap are being cleaned
out every day. As expected, the river upstream of the project area is
also flowing much faster which means it’s clearing (moving) sand,
exposing gravel and forming deeper pools as hoped.
Right now the project area is looking pretty muddy with all this rain but
come next summer we expect to see the entire area green up quickly.
Please let me know if you have any questions. S.
