Hi, folks, we’re almost at Sketching in Hardware and we’re very excited.
We have t-shirts ordered, daycare organized, restaurants booked, the
schedule full of amazing projects, and Janie is re-negotiating Sketching
Express bus line after our bus provider pulled out at the last minute (but
we'll make it work). Here are some last-minute important things we’d like
you to read/do.

NEW SLACK LINK
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Join our Slack! The last link expired so I generated a new one. Let me
know if you have any trouble joining it. We’ll probably post small changes
to Slack before they get rolled up in an update like this, plus it’s a
great platform for discussion.

PLEASE SHOW PROJECTS DURING SCIENCE FAIR ON FRIDAY!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
One of the most fun parts of Sketching every year is “Science Fair”, where
folks show projects that they’ve been working on so others can play with
them, touch them, ask questions and have more in-depth discussions than
the presentation format generally permits. This year, we’re having Science
Fair Friday night at TechTown. We’ll have tables there, a projector,
dinner, drinks and several hours to chat and show.

We're very excited to show as much stuff--regardless of whether it's
finished or not--as we can. If you think you might show something, please
fill out the following form.

PLEASE CHECK THE SCHEDULE
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The schedule SHOULD be complete and relatively stable, but please check it
for the following things:
  - That you’re on it
  - That the title of your talk is correct

If you have any questions, comments, time change requests, etc. please
don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll do what I can. Thank you.

UPDATES ONLINE
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you missed an earlier update (and this year there are a lot, and thank
you for your patience), I put them all on Google Docs, including this one:

NEW HOTEL RATE
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Our special rate at the Marriott Renaissance Center ended, and I know that
not everyone was able to take advantage of it. We’re negotiating, but
they’re pretty firm about not extending it, so I think the odds of us
getting that rate again are slim. However, Leah found that you can get a
better than stock rack rate for the same hotel through hotels.com.
Currently it’s at $257.

There’s also a Marriott Courtyard at the Millender Center, which is
essentially across the street from the Renaissance Center, and they may
have lower rates.

Finally, we know several folks have gotten places through AirBNB.

If you’re having trouble finding a place to stay, let us know and we’ll
see how we can help.

RESTAURANT OPTIONS FOR SUNDAY
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We have all the meals covered from Friday morning to Sunday lunch, but
we’re leaving Sunday evening up to you. Leah put together a list of
restaurants you may be interested in.

  THURSDAY NIGHT AT PUNCH BOWL SOCIAL
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you arrive on Thursday and would like to meet up with other people
coming to Sketching we’ve reserved Punch Bowl Social, a small bowling
alley in Detroit, from 6PM-9PM. We’ll provide (some) food, (a few) drinks,
and all the bowling. Please come and join us.

SPARKFUN + PIZZA = AWESOME
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sparkfun Electronics has generously offered to pay for pizza during the
charrette, which will be made by the Henry Ford Museum and delivered to us
as we work in the museum (hopefully in a vintage pizza delivery truck, but
I suspect it’ll just be a cart ;-).

THANK YOU!

PLEASE PAY!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you haven’t yet paid us, please pay. If you have any questions, let us
know. Thanks to the generosity of the Knight Foundation’s grant, we’re
able to accommodate virtually everyone.

Thank you and see you very soon!
